Canada’s health care landscape is changing, and so is the role of nurse practitioners. The NP workforce has doubled in less than 10 years, and their wide scope of practice means NPs have the potential to meet Canada’s evolving health care needs. In the coming weeks, the CFNU is launching a mixed methods study to explore the changing needs of nurse practitioners and determine policy changes to better support their job satisfaction, recruitment and retention. NPs will have an opportunity to have their voices heard as a part of the study and help inform CFNU’s recommendations to support the rapidly growing NP workforce. The study will include both unionized and non-unionized nurse practitioners across Canada. We need action on retention, recruitment and respect for every nurse practitioner in the country.
