It is with great sorrow that the members of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions mark the passing of Ed Broadbent. Ed was a giant to us all. He was a tireless fighter for a better and more compassionate Canada.
As a politician and party leader, he advocated for universal health care, trade union rights, pensions and public services. He believed that the economic resources of our country should be used for the betterment of the people. Ed was a true social democratic visionary.
With the founding of the Broadbent Institute, Ed continued his legacy of bringing people together to build a more equitable and sustainable country. His intellectual curiosity mixed with his passion for social change inspired many to fight for a better future. It is hard to imagine a Canada without Ed Broadbent. He will be deeply missed.
