Pressure Points: Strengthening and Retaining Canada’s Nurse Practitioner Workforce is one of the largest pan-Canadian studies of nurse practitioners (NPs) to date. Drawing from a survey of more than 1,300 Canadian NPs, the report reveals a workforce deeply committed to patient care but under growing strain. More than one-third of NPs are considering leaving their current roles at a time when one in five Canadians lack access to a primary health care provider. It is essential that Canada invest in NPs through supportive work environments, fair compensation and strategic workforce planning to ensure NPs and the Canadian health care system thrive.
This report was led by Dr. Erin Ziegler, a nurse practitioner and associate professor with the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing at Toronto Metropolitan University, as part of a broader research team.
