CFNU calls once again for a sustained ceasefire in Gaza amidst new attacks

Statement

As nurses and health care workers, members of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) are gravely concerned by the resurgence of attacks in Gaza. After two months of a fragile ceasefire, hundreds of people have now been killed and injured. Médecins Sans Frontières report high influxes of patients, primarily women and children, in multiple MSF-supported hospitals in the region.

A sustained ceasefire is critical to ensuring patients in the region can receive the lifesaving care they need. In addition to an immediate and sustained ceasefire, the CFNU is calling for the blockade to be lifted so that humanitarian aid and essential goods can be delivered to the region. The CFNU condemns the deliberate obstruction of lifesaving supplies, which violates international law and has dire consequences for patients.
