Dear BCNU Members,
We all know this isn’t about making history. It’s about respect.
Over the years, thousands of promises have been made. Some have been kept, and some are still being worked on. Yet your work remains difficult, demanding and, too often, dangerous. From a 2024 BCNU member survey we learned that:
Significant change is needed to address the 4,500 nursing vacancies across the province, especially with tens of thousands of more nurses needed in the coming years.
The message is clear: more must be achieved at the bargaining table.
BCNU, with President Adriane Gear at the helm, is leading this effort with determination and purpose. Our role at CFNU is to support you, and to stand shoulder to shoulder with you every step of the way.
Your role is just as critical. It is about unity, solidarity, standing together, and ensuring no one is left behind or loses sight of the goal. If a nurse doesn’t understand or isn’t following BCNU’s job action directives, explain them. Have the conversation again and again if necessary. The key is to ensure all 55,000-plus BCNU members stand united behind these actions.
That unity is what will move the employer and the government to act. That unity is what will help secure the strong collective agreement you deserve.
The message of the nurses’ union has always been one of strength and solidarity. And to the negative voices on social media, we have just one response: Just watch us.
