This week, at the New Brunswick Nurses Union’s 42nd Annual General Meeting, the organization’s longest standing president, Marilyn Quinn retires after 12 years.
Quinn was elected in 2004 and has served six consecutive two-year terms. She brought 39 years of nursing experience. Under Quinn’s leadership, NBNU has developed and fostered many longstanding, positive working relationships within labour and healthcare, both provincially and federally.
Provincially, Quinn has led negotiating teams to achieve 16 collective agreements during her presidency. Quinn has been instrumental in advancing the concerns of members about many serious issues, such as safe patient care, professional practice and workplace violence. She currently serves as chairperson of the Board of Trustees for both the Certain Bargaining Employees (CBE) and the New Brunswick Public Service (NBPSP) pension plans.
NBNU is pleased to announce that Paula Doucet has been elected by acclamation as the new president, effective October 27, 2016. Most recently employed at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, Ms. Doucet brings with her 20 years of nursing experience.
Doucet has a long and proud labour background having served as Vice President of NBNU for the past 13 years, 16 years as local President of the Bathurst Hospital, and Executive positions with both the NBFL and Bathurst & District Labour Council. Ms. Doucet`s extensive experience in collective bargaining and working within the labour movement in NB will be a tremendous asset.
