Statement from CFNU President Linda Silas on the Tumbler Ridge Shooting

Statement

My thoughts are with those killed, injured and impacted by the shooting in Tumbler Ridge, BC. On behalf of the 250,000 members of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions, including our fellow members of the BC Nurses’ Union, I extend our sincerest condolences to everyone impacted by this tragedy.

The violence experienced this week by children and families will have a continued profound impact on this small close-knit community, and we stand with them. I am deeply grateful to the nurses, first responders and fellow health care workers providing care in such traumatic and difficult circumstances.

I echo the words of Prime Minister Mark Carney who recognized the contributions of first responders and health care workers yesterday by saying, “In the darkest of moments they showed the best of our country.”

Sincerely,
Linda Silas, CFNU President
