CFNU applauds the federal government’s move to build a more connected health care system

Statement

The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) supports the federal government’s decision to introduce legislation that would build a more connected health care system. The Connected Care for Canadians Act, Bill S-5, aims to empower health care providers and protect patient safety by ensuring providers are able to share electronic information securely and seamlessly outside of their offices.

“Nurses welcome the Connected Care for Canadians Act as an important step towards greater transparency and patient safety in Canada’s health care sector. Fulsome access to patient health data gives nurses the information they need to make safe decisions and reduces unnecessary stress on frontline providers and their patients,” said CFNU President Linda Silas.

Safe and transparent data sharing is an important step towards a more connected health care system. The CFNU looks forward to working with federal, provincial and territorial governments on building a public health care system ready for the future.
