Statement in honour of Aman Grewal

Statement

Canada’s frontline nurses, members of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU), mourn the passing of nurse and advocate Aman Grewal.

As the president of the British Columbia Nurses’ Union (BCNU) from 2021 to 2023, Aman played an integral role in bringing BCNU back into the fold of the CFNU, the largest movement of unionized nurses in North America.

In her tenure as president, Aman helped negotiate mandatory nurse-patient ratios in the 2022–2025 provincial collective agreement. This groundbreaking agreement was the first of its kind in Canada, creating a clear path to help bring this lifesaving strategy across the country.

Aman was a gentle leader and fierce advocate in the nursing community. She had a passion for human rights and equity in nursing and always fought to ensure the protection of fellow nurses’ rights. On behalf of Canada’s nurses, we offer our condolences to Aman’s family and friends.

In unwavering solidarity,

Linda Silas, CFNU President
