On Nurses Week, we need more than "thank you."

All nurses have the right to work in a safe and respectful workplace free from violence.

Canada’s nurses are proud to make safe patient care their first priority, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. Unfortunately, physical and verbal abuse targeted at nurses are regular occurrences in health care settings.

Nurses face high rates of workplace violence every day. Surveys of nurses show that:

• About a third to 1/2 of nurses have experienced physical abuse
• Approximately 3/4 report verbal abuse

For Nurses Week, we need more than hearing “thank you” from politicians. We need action.

Visit the CFNU Speak Up app and “TAKE ACTION” now to tell federal and provincial legislators that we need:

• Improve health and safety for nurses
• Combat workplace violence
• Better planning in order to reduce overtime and absenteeism
